A 22-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison plus five years for fatally gunning down a man in Atlanta, the Fulton County District Attorney's Office announced Friday.

A jury found Anthony Lewis guilty Thursday of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Lewis shot 23-year-old Brandon Jones 23 times, including nine at close range, after waiting for him outside an apartment complex in the 2500 block of Etheridge Drive on Oct. 8, 2011, prosecutors said. Lewis continued shooting Jones after he had fallen to the ground in the parking lot.

Authorities said Lewis was angry at Jones for allegedly spreading rumors that Lewis had burglarized his home several weeks earlier.

Lewis confronted Jones two times before the fatal shooting, officials said.
