1-year-old burned by frying pan grease

Aug 6, 2010

A 1-year-old girl suffered severe burns after she pulled an electric frying pan onto herself Thursday afternoon, a Hall County fire captain said.

The child, whose name is not being released, was flown by helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital with second- and third-degree burns to about 20 percent of her body, Capt. Scott Cagle told the AJC Thursday night.

The grease burned the girl's upper arms, chest and face, Cagle said. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, he said.

"It was one of those freak accidents," Cagle told the AJC.

The child's parents were home at the time of the incident, Cagle said. The frying pan was on a kitchen counter, he said.

"We always encourage kids not to be in the kitchen at all when adults are cooking," Cagle said.
