A boy rescued from a pool at an Atlanta hotel died Wednesday morning, the Fulton County medical examiner said.

Stephen Akinlabi, 10, was rushed to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite on Saturday after he fell into a pool and nearly drown while attending a birthday party at the Westin Peachtree Plaza, his parents told Channel 2 Action News.

Westin general manager Ron Tarson said Monday the staff’s thoughts are with the boy’s family.

“We’re deeply saddened by this event and our hearts and thoughts are with this young man and his loved ones.”

On March 22, a 61-year-old East Point woman was found dead at the same Westin, at 210 Peachtree St. NW., after getting locked in a walk-in freezer.
