The year is ending Saturday with temperatures about 10 degrees warmer than normal – just like it began.

Atlanta’s high temperature on Jan. 1, 2011 was 62 degrees, and Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton is predicting that highs Saturday afternoon will be in the low to mid-60s. Lows for Saturday night’s peach drop at Underground Atlanta will be in the mid-40s, Minton said.

Unlike Jan. 1, when nearly an inch of rain fell at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the last day of 2011 will be dry, with nothing but sunshine in the forecast.

Atlanta will end the year with 39.23 inches of rain, a deficit of about 10 ½ inches.

Saturday’s warm weather will be a distant memory by early week, when much colder temperatures filter into the state.

Afternoon readings will be in the upper 50s on Sunday, but Monday’s high will be about 10 degrees colder, and on Tuesday, the mercury will probably top out in the upper 30s after a morning low in the low 20s.

In the mountains, lows Tuesday night could be as low as 11 degrees, the National Weather Service said.
