A wrong-way driver caused a crash Saturday night that killed one woman and critically injured two others, Gwinnett County police said.

The three-car crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Jimmy Carter Boulevard at Rockbridge Court, said Lt. Eric Eberly of Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services.

Two people were entrapped in the wreckage and firefighters had to cut them out of their vehicle.

Gwinnett police detective James Flanagan said Sunday that a car driven by a possible drunk driver heading eastbound on Jimmy Carter crossed over the median, struck another vehicle head-on and then overturned and struck a third vehicle.

A woman died in the accident. A man and a woman -- the driver who allegedly caused the crash -- were critically injured and were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, police said. A girl was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Authorities did not release the identities of the victims.

The crash led to the closure of westbound lanes of Jimmy Carter Boulevard as police investigated.
