Workers from Georgia and Tennessee teamed up Saturday to successfully rescue a man from a pit cave.

The 22-year-old man, whose identity is not known, was unable to exit the cave, part of which is known as the Fantastic Pit, on his own, reportedly due to illness, according to social media reports. The effort involved about 100 rescue personnel from Walker County, Ga., and Chattanooga, Tenn.

The rescue ended about 1 p.m. when the man was handed over to emergency medical workers. The initial alert from Walker County went out about 5:15 a.m.

Ellison’s Cave is located on Pigeon Mountain in Walker County. It is 12 miles long and extends 1,063 feet vertically, according to Wikipedia.org.
