Taking a page from the “Little Free Library” book-lending concept, local artists working with the Woodstock Visitors Center have created a “Little Free Pantry” where donations of food can be made.

Marketing Manager Stacy Brown discovered the Little Free Pantry idea as a crowd-sourced solution to food insecurity, according to the Visitors Center. Woodstock’s pantry is a 1930s-era antique refrigerator re-imagined by artists Deidra Smith and Darrell Reddy.

The artists painted the refrigerator and added a spinning roof vent, spatulas and spoons, arms on the side and instructions on the door, "Take what you need – Leave what you can." A time-lapse video is on YouTube: https://bit.ly/2siR114

“It’s the hope that community groups, nearby residents, and Scout troops will take a part in stocking the pantry for neighbors in need,” according to an announcement of the pantry. The Visitors Center, 8588 Main St., asks people to share photos on social media with the hashtag #littlefreepantry and the location @DowntownWoodstock.
