The Woodstock City Council approved, on first reading, an ordinance setting regulations governing temporary businesses selling fireworks. The provisions fall into line with the second portion of the state law which went into effect in July legalizing the sale of fireworks statewide. The second aspect dealing with regulation of temporary stands goes into effect in January.

Those interested in setting up a temporary business would have to apply for a license from the city clerk and fill out an application to the fire chief. Permits would cost an applicant $500 for each location and would be valid for 90 days after issuance.

The ordinance also specifies stands can’t sell fireworks out of vehicles or flatbed trucks and that the temporary businesses would have to be located within 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant while meeting all zoning regulations. The licenses would become available Jan. 1.
