The Woodstock City Council has approved seeking about $1 million in additional federal funds to construct the Noonday Creek Trail, and has endorsed Cobb County’s request for funds to extend its part of the trail south to Bells Ferry Road.
The council also agreed to a 20 percent local match for the federal monies, about $250,000. This raises the project’s total cost to roughly $4.4 million from $3.17 million; federal funds will cover $3.52 million, according to a staff
The additional funding is needed primarily to deal with rock located on site and utility and right-of-way adjustments, staff said.
Noonday Creek Trail will start at Ga. 92 in Woodstock, follow its namesake creek south for about two miles into Cobb, and end at Noonday Park at Shallowford Road.
Cobb is seeking federal funds to continue the trail another two miles south to the Bells Ferry Trailhead, according to Woodstock’s resolution of support. There, the trail would link up with a completed section that extends west and south toward Kennesaw Mountain.
