The Woodstock Police Department K9 unit recently won recertification and recognition at the annual South Georgia K-9 Training and Certification Workshop in Perry.
The event is hosted by the Dooly County and Houston County sheriff’s offices. Officials of the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association train and certify police service dogs in narcotic detection, utility/tracking/trailing, and explosive detection.
At the close of the conference, handlers and their K9s are recognized for excellence in their field of expertise. Woodstock Officer Jarred Jackson and K9 Exo received first place in the “Obedience” category out of about 70 teams competing.
Woodstock K9s Exo, Rex and Dugan are trained in tracking and narcotics detection, while K9 Rosa is trained in explosive detection.
“We take great pride in our training and dedicate ourselves to serving the city to the best of our ability,” said Jackson, a member of the Woodstock police special operations group. “Our K9s Exo, Rosa, Dugan and Rex are dedicated to serving and love doing it.”
