Woodstock police are transitioning to a new emergency alert system, and residents who previously signed up for weather bulletins, missing person messages, evacuation notices and other time-sensitive communications will need to register with the new system.
A CodeRED community notification system will launch Oct. 1, city officials said. When people register, they’ll be able to choose what they receive and how they’ll receive it – by land line, cell phone, email, text message, TTY or a combination of these.
Alerts can be made specific to streets, neighborhood or regions. There’s also a CodeRED app that can be downloaded to smart phones.
Those who previously signed up with the present Nixle system will need to subscribe anew to CodeRED to continue receiving alerts after Oct. 1.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s office, Office of Emergency Management and city of Canton also use CodeRED.
