The Woodstock City Council gave first-reading approval to a change in the city’s charitable solicitation ordinance, one requiring groups applying for permits to have a physical office in Cherokee County.
City manager Jeff Moon said that two of the three organizations that routinely seek permits to solicit on city streets have an office locally, but that the that a third, New Life Church, of Louisville, KY, has received complaints from residents.
Mayor Donnie Henriques suggested that the measure be shared with Cherokee County, for consideration of possible adoption by the county. The group has apparently solicited in at least one location that is near, but not inside the city.
The change also outlines an appeals process for any group denied a permit.
