Woman, 20, killed in hit-and-run

July 2, 2013

A 20-year-old college student was killed in a hit-and-run incident over the weekend, and authorities are looking for the person responsible.

Alexandra Desir of Locust Grove was struck by a vehicle believed to be a Saturn Vue while she was walking on Rose Avenue in Barnesville late Saturday night, the Georgia State Patrol said Monday.

Desir, a student at Gordon State College in Barnesville, was en route to a job at the Huddle House, the school said.

“We are all heartbroken at the tragic loss of this young woman’s life,” Gordon State spokeswoman Tamara Boatwright said in a statement.

Investigators believe the vehicle that hit Desir is a Saturn Vue between the model years 2002 and 2005. The right front corner of the vehicle should be damaged, the GSP said, and the light should be missing.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Georgia State Patrol at 770-254-7201 or the Barnesville Police Department.
