A Duluth woman was killed Thursday night while crossing a busy Gwinnett County thoroughfare, police said.
The woman, identified as Sophia Garcia-Salina, 29, was hit by a car around 10 p.m. while trying to cross Steve Reynolds Boulevard near Old Norcross Road near Duluth.
Gwinnett Police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman said the driver of a 2008 Lexus was traveling eastbound on Steve Reynolds and attempted to turn into a shopping center.
Garcia-Salina stopped in the middle of the road and was struck by the Lexus, Spellman said, and was knocked into the opposite lane where she was struck by another vehicle.
Spellman said Garcia-Salina was wearing dark clothing and there was heavy rain in the area at the time of the accident. Neither of the drivers was injured, and it doesn't appear that drugs or alcohol were involved, although the investigation is ongoing, she said.
