A Gwinnett County grand jury has indicted a woman accused of molesting a teenager at a domestic violence shelter.

Shannon N. Bowles was arrested Jan. 28 and charged with child molestation after a 14-year-old girl reported the allegations to police, according to an incident report obtained by the AJC. Bowles was 22 at the time of her arrest.

The incident began when the teenager, whose name was not released, called a counseling hotline because she was upset that her friend, later identified as Bowles, was avoiding her, the police report states. The teen believed the hotline was confidential, but after discussing her relationship with Bowles, officers were dispatched to the shelter to investigate.

"She first said that she and Shannon were just friends," the police report states. "Eventually she said she was in a sexual relationship with Shannon."

The teen asked to speak to a female officer, and an investigator was dispatched to conduct the interview. Bowles was arrested the same day without incident, according to police.

Bowles was indicted July 18, according to the Gwinnett County District Attorney's office. A trial date has not been set.
