Atlanta police are investigating the death of a woman who was discovered overnight by a newspaper carrier.

The woman was stabbed to death and her body was found Sunday morning on Mims Street in southwest Atlanta, police said.

The victim, identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office as 51-year-old Phyllis Frazier, sustained several stab wounds to the torso.

Michelle “Chocolate” White, a newspaper carrier for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, discovered the body at 3:15 a.m. while working her route.

White said she noticed a high heel shoe in the street when returning to her car after delivering a newspaper.

She turned on her car’s bright lights to get a better view and then noticed a lady on the ground who did not respond when she called out.

“I noticed she was lying in a pool of blood,” White said.

White, who called police immediately, said the victim’s pants and underwear had been pulled down.

White said the neighborhood was quiet when she found the body.

“This death investigation is active and ongoing,” Atlanta police said in a statement.
