After several bear sightings this week, some sad news, a bear was found dead on the side of Interstate 85 near Steve Reynolds Boulevard Friday morning.

Channel 2's Dave Huddleston talked to the woman who found the bear. She told Huddleston the bear was on the north side of I-85 and was a good size, close to 200 pounds.

Huddleston told Venecia Cannon that the bear she saw Thursday at her job was possibly the same bear found dead on the side of I-85 between Steve Reynolds Boulevard and Beaver Ruin Road.

"Oh God, I didn't know that. I wish they would've came and got him," Cannon said.

Channel 2 Action News viewer Margy Mathews sent in photos of the dead bear. Mathews declined to do an on-camera interview.

Channel 2 Action News has done several stories this week about bear sightings in the area.

One viewer video shows the bear climbing a fence in the same area where the bear was found on the side of the road.  Cannon told Huddleston she just saw the bear at her office.

"We all went out took a look and there he was walking throughout the trees, he was at the top of the hill by the freeway and he walked all the way around down and he kept coming out and greeting everybody," Cannon said.

Both women say they were saddened to hear the bear was dead, but more upset that nothing seemed to be done to trap the bear and take it somewhere else before it was killed.
