The body of the missing wife of a deployed Fort Stewart soldier has been found, and a corrections officer has been accused of killing her.

Kenneth Lumpkin, a Liberty County Sheriff's deputy, was taken into custody Tuesday evening and charged with the murder of Lori Arrowood, Micah Ward, the special agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation office in Statesboro, told the AJC Wednesday.

Arrowood, 42, was reported missing from her Hinesville home by a friend Saturday night and was last seen around 1 p.m. that day, Keith Moran, chief deputy of the Liberty County Sheriff's Office, has said.

Her body was found Wednesday in woods beside a dirt road in nearby Long County, the coroner there, Emmett Patterson, told the AJC.

Patterson said he examined the body around noon and that he did not know the cause of death. "The GBI are still investigating," he said. "They're going to do forensics on her."

The Liberty County sheriff called on the GBI for help with the case Monday, while the Georgia Search and Rescue team and more than 100 soldiers from Fort Stewart were still looking for Arrowood.

Lumpkin was interviewed Tuesday, Ward said. But the agent said he could not divulge what Lumpkin said.

Lumpkin is being held by the sheriff in Wayne County.

Arrowood's husband, Sgt. Nate Arrowood, was deployed to Iraq. He is returning home now, according to WSAV-TV in Savannah.
