Seventeen men who responded to a Backpage.com adult services ad were arrested in a Conyers sting operation.
Officers from the Conyers and Covington police departments set up the sting after a woman who advertised on Backpage.com, a site used to advertise escort services, was robbed at gunpoint by a man responding to her ad. The robbery took place at a local motel, police said.
Natasha Parker, 32, of Thomson, reported the incident to authorities on Dec. 14. Conyers detectives arrested 23-year-old Trevon S. Meeks, of Conyers, on Dec. 30. He was charged with armed robbery and forgery.
Parker was also charged with prostitution and possession of marijuana.
Conyers police investigators, with the help of Covington police, conducted the pandering sting Friday night which resulted in the arrests of 17 men who had responded to Backpage ads. In addition to the pandering charges, one male was also charged with possession of marijuana, and another was charged with possession of cocaine.
“Due to violent crimes like these, it is important we conduct regular stings at our local motels. We must remind these criminals that Conyers will not tolerate such acts of solicitation that inevitably brings drugs and violence with it,” Conyers Police Chief Gene Wilson said.
