The Avondale Estates Downtown Development Authority has hired David Burt as a part-time economy development consultant. Burt, who currently has a similar position with Hapeville, is scheduled to start in early April.
The DDA was almost completely reconfigured last fall and is now, through an intergovernmental agreement getting funded by the city. One of its first goals since getting funded was hiring a development professional who works for both the city and DDA.

“We need experience working with developers because it is bubbling below the surface,” said DDA Chair Sam Collier. “We need someone who knows how to attract good development, who knows how to bring in the right developers and who can identify the next places for development.”
Burt, 45, who is from Manchester, Ga., has a Masters in city planning and has co-owned his own development company. Collier added he hopes that eventually Burt’s role will evolve into a full-time position.
