The Alpharetta City Council voted 7-0 Monday night to allow those dining out to bring their own bottle of wine along.

Georgia law already allows diners who order wine to take their merlot to go, as long as it is served with a meal and sealed to go.

But the new ordinance means that Alpharetta restaurants with liquor licenses can allow customers to bring their own wine to have with their meal and then recork it for the trip home.

A minimum $10 corkage fee would be charged for the service. The law gives restaurants the option to participate.
