Construction crews working with the Georgia Department of Transportation will permanently close Wilkins Road Southwest in Winder on April 9. Signs will be placed 5 days prior to the closure of Wilkins Road Southwest between Matthews School Road and the northernmost driveway at St. Matthew Catholic Church. This schedule may change depending on weather conditions.

Crews will need the road closure to continue work on the West Winder Bypass project.

This construction will realign Ga..211 over Ga. 8 and the railroad in Winder onto the existing Patrick Mill Road. The construction process will occur in three phases. This project was awarded to E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. in August 2018 for approximately $59 million.

Drivers are asked to slow down and drive alert through the construction zone.
