Half a nice weekend is better than none at all.
After a chilly start, Saturday’s weather will be a delight, with lots of sunshine and an afternoon high of 60 degrees, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist David Chandley.
Come Sunday afternoon, however, clouds and rain will take over.
“Most of Sunday will be dry, with increasing clouds late in the day,” Chandley said. “The shower risk goes up Sunday night and then some wet weather is ahead the first of next week.”
And when the rain comes, it will stick around for a while.
Parts of North Georgia could see 2 to 4 inches of rain through Wednesday, Chandley said. “No severe weather is expected, but flooding could be an issue,” he said.
Saturday’s sunshine and mild temperatures will be ideal weather for the Winter Beer Carnival at Atlantic Station.
The event offers samples of more than 140 beers, a midway and tents with a variety of amusements, including motorized keg racing and an ice luge course with innertubes. The festivities kick off at 3 p.m.
The only major sporting event in town this weekend is the Hawks-Hornets game Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Philips Arena. Philips will also be host to WinterJam 2013, a Christian concert, at 6 p.m. Sunday.
Weekends in Atlanta mean roadwork, of course, and the Georgia DOT has a full slate of projects scheduled — some of which could be short-circuited by the rain.
On the top-end Perimeter, several lanes will be closed in both directions at various locations between I-75 and Ashford Dunwoody Road due to bridge work and guard rail repairs. The construction is scheduled from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
In DeKalb County, traffic in both directions on I-285 will be affected by work around Flat Shoals Parkway. Construction delays are also likely on I-20 eastbound from Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road.
