The calendar says January, but the weather says April.
Temperatures will be about 20 degrees above normal this weekend, and there’s a slight chance of a passing shower or two, all the way through early next week, when the chance of rain increases.
Atlanta’s normal high is 52, but Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton is forecasting a high Friday of 71.
“It’s looking even warmer on Saturday and Sunday,” Minton said. She predicted the mercury will top out at 73 on Saturday and 72 on Sunday.
Atlanta’s record high for Saturday is 79 degrees.
Weekend lows will be in the around 60, also well above the normal high of 34.
Minton said the chance of rain is 50 percent on Friday, decreasing to 20 percent Saturday and Sunday before climbing back to 50 percent Monday.
If the rain holds off, motorists can expect to see road construction projects shutting down highway lanes in several places on the northside.
Road work is scheduled to block three lanes of I-285 eastbound from I-75 to Roswell Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
Three westbound lanes of I-285 near New Northside Drive will be closed the same hours.
Doug Turnbull in the AM750 and 95.5FM News/Talk WSB Traffic Center warned that delays are expected at times on Ga. 400 in both directions between I-85 and Lenox Road.
Downtown streets will be jammed this weekend by a couple of sporting event and the annual Atlanta Boat Show, which runs Friday through Sunday at the Georgia World Congress Center.
The Hawks take on the Utah Jazz at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Philips Arena, but the biggest crowds can be expected on Sunday, when the Falcons play the Seahawks next door at the Georgia Dome. Kickoff for the playoff game is set for 1 p.m.
