Sunday morning started warm and temperatures are rising.

By lunchtime, metro Atlanta hit the mid 80s, but afternoon rain showers brought that down some, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

Currently, the temperature in Atlanta is 78 degrees.

The high on Sunday is 88 degrees.

Humidity in the metro brings a better chance for rain than in the North Georgia Mountains, where the air is more dry, Channel 2 reported.

A 40 percent chance of scattered storms Sunday and Monday increases to a 60 percent chance through Friday.

“We’re going to see more potential for slipping and sliding on the highways in the days to come, Monahan said.

That rain is expected to keep temps in the 80s all week, maintaining the relatively cool summer Georgia is having as compare the last summer when 55 days had temperatures in the 90-degree range by August 5, Channel 2 reported.
