For the eighth consecutive year, the city of Waleska collected the most recyclables per capita – 44.03 pounds per resident – to top that category in the 2019 Mayors’ Recycling Challenge of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce.
Waleska bested four other cities in the per capita category, according to the chamber's Going Green Committee, which announced the results of the June-July competition at the chamber's September Good Morning Cherokee breakfast. Information: https://bit.ly/2kyCkXK
Waleska was followed by Woodstock, 26.29 pounds per resident; Holly Springs, 21.51 pounds; Ball Ground, 13.1 pounds, and Canton, 10.95 pounds.
Woodstock collected the most recyclables in June and July, 847,273 pounds, followed by Canton, 321,030 pounds; Holly Springs, 277,853 pounds; Waleska, 42,400 pounds, and Ball Ground, 27,760 pounds, the chamber said The combined total for all five cities was 1.5 million pounds. Woodstock also was recognized for having the highest percentage increase, 67 percent, of collected recyclables over the previous year.
Sanitation services partnered with the chamber to track weigh slips for the contest. They were Cycle Works Sanitation & Recycling, Santek Waste Services of Georgia, and Waste Management for Ball Ground, Holly Springs, Waleska and Woodstock; and Advanced Disposal for Canton.
