A tipster who watched TV news led Gwinnett County authorities to a woman who allegedly robbed a SunTrust Bank in unincorporated Duluth, police said Thursday.

Johnette Denise Pinkerton is charged with the Tuesday robbery of the SunTrust at 2171 Pleasant Hill Road.

A woman walked into the bank about 1:30 p.m. and presented a teller a note demanding money, police said. The woman was given about $3,000 cash. She walked out of the bank and was seen leaving in a light-colored passenger car.

Police said they were led to the 58-year-old Pinkerton by a tipster who recognized the woman in a surveillance video of the robbery broadcast on TV news, and who called Gwinnett detectives.

“Detectives were able to compare ID photos of Pinkerton with the security footage, and they found a match,” said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith.

The woman was arrested without incident at her home on Country Court in Lawrenceville, Smith said. He would not say what motivated Pinkerton to allegedly rob the bank but said she has a prior robbery conviction out of Florida.

Pinkerton is being held without bond in the Gwinnett Detention Center on a felony robbery charge, according to the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office. She also was charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, jail records show.
