A family gives thanks to Gwinnett County police officers for rescuing their grandfather on Sunday.

Officers were dispatched to a Missing Person call at the 1700 block of Green Oak Circle in unincorporated Lawrenceville on Sunday morning.

The granddaughter told officers that her 82-year-old grandfather, Sigun Yan, had been last seen at 8:30 a.m.

She told the dispatchers that he had difficulty walking and would often use a wheelchair or a cane around the home.

Afte ten minutes of searching, Yan was located lying on a downed tree above a deep creep behind the house. He was uninjured, but unable to get himself out.

In a video posted to YouTube, two Gwinnett County officers are seen lifting the grandfather up a hill.

"I am really thankful for all the guys... for all the policeman here helping out," the granddaughter said.

The Gwinnett County Police Department said that the many adults who care for their elderly family members can take measures to keep them safe.

"In an effort to keep them safe inside the home, consider purchasing audible alarms for your exterior doors," Cpl. Michele Pihera told Channel 2 Action News.

"These alarms can usually be purchased at home improvement stores in the child safety section," Pihera added. "The alarms are designed to either chime or create an alarm sound (much like a fire alarm) when the door is opened."
