A driver was taken to a hospital with critical injuries Monday after plowing through the front of a Lawrenceville picture framing business.

The business was open at the time of the accident, which occurred about 11:36 a.m. in the 900 block of Buford Drive near Braselton Highway, Gwinnett fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said in an emailed statement.

A 2002 Honda Accord collided with a tractor trailer, causing the car to crash into the storefront of Discount Picture Framing, Lawrenceville Police Department Capt. Jeff Smith said.

No one inside the business was injured when the vehicle left the roadway and plowed through the front glass window, he said.

But firefighters had to use rescue tools to free the motorist, who was trapped in the vehicle after it came to rest inside the business, Rutledge said. There was no one else in the vehicle.

The driver, Victoria Cofer, 55, of Lawrenceville, was in critical condition at Gwinnett Medical Center as of 3 p.m., Smith said.

The Lawrenceville Police Department is investigating the incident.
