A pedestrian hit by a car while trying to cross North Druid Hills Road in Brookhaven has died, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The incident happened about 4:45 a.m. Thursday near I-85.

The man, whose name has not been released, was hit by a westbound 2013 Toyota Camry.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper T. Burkett said the man was thrown over the Camry, landing in the roadway.

Burkett told The Atlanta Journal Constitution the man was not in a crosswalk, and there is no lighting along that stretch of North Druid Hills.

“It was really, really dark and all of a sudden, we hit him,” said Methateria Littles, a passenger in the Camry. “They need more lights, so we can see who’s walking in front of the car.”

Littles said the man appeared to have a suffered a broken leg and a head injury. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, his condition unknown, Burkett said.

Burkett said no charges have been filed in the incident.

North Druid Hills Road was shut down for more than an hour while Brookhaven police and the GSP investigated the accident.
