High school seniors who applied for early admission to the University of Georgia will learn Friday afternoon whether they were admitted.
Students can check their status at www.admissions.uga.edu or through the UGA Admissions iPhone app.
A record of more than 11,300 students applied through early action this year, said Nancy McDuff, associate vice president for admissions and enrollment management.
Of them, 58 percent were admitted to the 2013 freshman class and will receive a congratulatory video message from UGA President Michael Adams.
Students admitted early averaged a nearly 4.0 GPA and 1355 on the math and verbal portions of the SAT, according to UGA. They took on average seven college-level Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate classes.
About 7 percent were denied.
A third were deferred and asked to submit additional information by the regular-decision deadline of Jan. 15. Early-action decisions are based solely on academics, while those who apply through the regular pool also include volunteer work, high school activities and other information.
Georgia Tech will release its early-action decisions Dec. 15.
