University of Georgia officials announced a new dean of students Wednesday who will oversee the Tate Student Center, student organizations and other departments on the Athens campus.

William McDonald, currently vice president for student life and dean of students at Presbyterian College, will begin in January, pending approval from the State Board of Regents. He previously worked in student affairs at UGA, Memphis State University, Carson-Newman College, Catawba College and Lenoir-Rhyne College.

Laura Dean, the interim dean, will continue in that position through December and then return to teaching in the College Student Affairs Administration Program.
