The town of Tyrone announced Tuesday that Post 3 Council member Ken Matthews “passed away unexpectedly” Monday night.
Matthews, 56, was serving his third term on the council, having first been elected in 2009. Matthews was a Navy veteran and realtor who spent most of his life in Tyrone, and served on the planning commission before joining the council.
Town offices will be closed 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday so that employees can attend his funeral service at Parrott Funeral Home and Crematory, 8355 Senoia Road in Fairburn. The next regular council meeting, originally planned for June 18, has been canceled; however, a special called meeting to discuss next year’s budget will be held at 9 a.m. at Town Hall, with social distancing measures in place.
