Atlanta police Monday were trying to determine if two overnight robberies near Georgia Tech were related.
While the victims were not Tech students, Georgia Tech police sent out a crime alert warning students and staff of the incidents, which occurred shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday in the Home Park neighborhood just north of campus.
Atlanta police spokesman Eric Schwartz said both incidents happened at the intersection of Hirsch and Ethel streets.
"The first incident involved two victims who were approached by a black vehicle," Schwartz told the AJC.
"A suspect pulled a handgun on the victims and demanded everything they had in their possession," Schwartz said. "The victims gave the suspect cash, credit cards and their cell phones."
In the second incident, three males approached the victim from behind bushes and struck him in the head with a handgun, Schwartz said.
He said the suspects then went through that victim's pockets, taking his passport, cash and cell phone.
The victim, whose name has not been released, sustained minor injuries, according to Schwartz.
According to the Georgia Tech crime alert, the victims in both robberies described one of their assailants as a black male wearing dark clothing and a "do rag" and armed with a handgun.
Last Thursday night, a woman was stabbed outside the nearby Firehouse Subs restaurant, just across 10th Street from campus.
The victim in that attack, who also was not a Tech student, is recovering from her wounds. Her attacker was described as a black male wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt and a yellow bandana.
