The new Smyrna and Acworth/Kennesaw Health Centers are expected to open in the spring — March or April for Smyrna and May for Acworth/Kennesaw. The Cobb County Board of Commissioners agreed Dec. 12 to return any excess funding from Cobb and Douglas Public Health for the new centers to this organization.
In March, Cobb and Douglas Public Health agreed to fund $1,516,669 of the Guaranteed Maximum Price of $2,081,765 for the Smyrna Health Center by John W. Spratlin & Son. Then in October, the Cobb County Board of Health received grant funding of $664,309 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the construction of both health centers.
The $664,309 is split $338,798 to Acworth/Kennesaw and $325,511 to Smyrna.
Any unspent portion of the remaining $852,360 ($1,516,669 minus $664,309) will be returned to Cobb and Douglas Public Health.
