Two people died Sunday afternoon in a multi-car wreck in Henry County, police said.
The wreck happened about 3:30 p.m. on Ga. 81 near Sowell Road.
Henry County police Sgt. Joey Smith said an eastbound 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee had stopped because of other cars turning left into the Tractor Supply Store when it was rear-ended by another eastbound vehicle, a 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier.
“The impact caused the Jeep to go into the westbound lane of Highway 81, where it was struck by a 2004 Chrysler Town and Country traveling westbound,” Smith said.
He said the driver of the Jeep, Michael Jacob Smith, 20, of Locust Grove, and his 21-year-old passenger, Chandler Nicole Ellenburg of McDonough, died at the scene.
The driver of the Chrysler minivan was taken to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, Smith said.
The driver of the Cavalier, whose name has not been released, was not injured. Smith said that driver faces charges of following too close and two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide.
