A 15-year-old girl involved in a head-on collision that killed five other people Friday in Troup County remains in critical condition Monday.
The wreck occurred at 6:40 p.m. after a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass driven by 28-year-old Willie Hooks attempted an illegal pass on Old West Point Road near West Point Road in LaGrange, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Hooks struck a vehicle driven by Melanie Kay Lemmon, 23, whose 1995 Pontiac Grand Am also carried five passengers.
Both Hooks and Lemmon died at the scene. Also killed in the crash were Miranda Hurston, 37, her 16-year-old son, Tridarius Harrison, and her grandson Quamauri C. Harrison, 1. All are from LaGrange.
Two other teenagers, both Hurston’s children, were critically injured in the wreck. Jayvianna C. Hurston, 15, was flown to Atlanta Medical Center, and Shaquavious S. Harrison, 18, was flown to the Medical Center in Columbus, GSP spokesman Gordy Wright said.
Hospital officials report that Harrison was in critical condition Friday.
Only Lemmon and Miranda Hurston wore seat belts, police said. The infant, reportedly the son of Shaquavious, was held by a back seat passenger.
Police suspect alcohol as a contributing factor to the crash and drew a blood sample from Hooks.
