Metro Atlantans got a reprieve from showers and storms today as a large area of rain that was moving through northern Alabama before daybreak barely brushed the northwest corner of Georgia before fizzling out.

There is, however, a slight chance of pop-up showers later today, according to Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton.

Since early this morning, “the models have really adjusted in taking down the stronger chances of rain,” Minton said. “Those big storms from earlier this morning have moved on out.”

She said a line of strong storms that stretched from Arkansas into Texas at noon today “is holding together and we’ll keep an eye on that for the next 48 hours.”

Minton said the chance of rain will increase from 30 percent today and 40 percent Tuesday to 60 percent by Wednesday.

Highs will be in the upper 80s today and Tuesday and in the mid-80s Wednesday, with morning lows in the low to mid-70s.

The end of the week looks like more of the same, with a 40 percent chance of rain Thursday and Friday.
