Three people rescued from atop a Roswell dam

Roswell Fire and Rescue crews saved three hikers -- two men and one women -- trapped late this afternoon atop a rain-swollen creek in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.

Last July two men had to be rescued from the Vickery Creek waterfall, which drops roughly 30 feet. The area is a popular hangout with teens and young adults and, despite its slippery surface, park visitors often tempt fate and try to cross the dam.

"We’ve performed several rescues there (at Vickery Creek)," said deputy fire chief Paul Piccirilli. Following last summer's incidents, the U.S. National Park Service cut down a large tree limb where a rope swing was knotted.
