Three people were killed in a single-vehicle crash around 11:45 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Doc Hughes Road and Beyers Landing Drive near Buford, according to Gwinnett County police Cpl. Brian Kelly.

The victims -- the driver and two passengers -- were traveling eastbound on Doc Hughes Road in a 2007 Chevrolet pick-up truck when they veered off the road and struck a fence and guardrail, landing in a stream in a nearby embankment. All three people died at the scene, police said.

The driver has been identified as 36 year-old Terry Hammock of Grayson, police said. The passengers were 27 year-old William Lewis of Buford and 31 year-old Chad Litton of Lawrenceville. Hammock and Lewis were not wearing seat belts, Kelly said.

Though it appears speed and alcohol contributed to the deaths, the incident is still being investigated by Gwinnett County police.
