Georgia State University police are investigating a pair of incidents last week in which students had electronic items snatched by thieves.

The first incident happened just before 5 p.m. Thursday as a female student was walking along Decatur Street.

According to a campus crime alert posted by university police, the student “was approached by three suspects who snatched her iPad and fled.”

The suspects were described as being black males, all about 18 years old. One had dreadlocks and was wearing a brown jacket and blue jeans. The second suspect was also wearing a brown jacket and jeans, while the third was wearing a blue jacket and jeans.

About the same time on Friday, a female student was on the third floor of the General Classroom Building when her cell phone was snatched from her lap, according to university police.

The suspect in that case was described as a black male, about 5 feet, 4 inches tall, with dark complexion and curly long hair. He was wearing a gray “wife-beater” t-shirt, gray sweat pants and a white baseball cap, according to the crime alert.

Earlier this year, Georgia State was hit by a rash of cell phone thefts. In a one-month period during February and early March, four students had their phones stolen by bandits who threatened or intimidated them or simply snatched the phones from their hands.
