Thieves crash truck through Mall at Stonecrest

March 9, 2016
DeKalb police are on the lookout for the thieves who drove a pickup truck through the Mall at Stonecrest and stole an ATM.
The break-in was reported just after 2 a.m. Tuesday.
Police said the thieves rammed the truck through the food court, ripped out an ATM and took off.
According to the police report obtained by Channel 2’s Audrey Washington, the thieves slammed the Dodge Ram through the glass and snatched the ATM.
No one was inside the mall at the time and no one was hurt.

A security guard on duty tried to stop them, but it was too late. He said he heard the crash and called 911.

Shoppers are on high alert.

"It's getting hot, so you will see a lot more stuff like this. People are crazy. I thought that only happened in movies,” Daniel Coakley said.

"People work hard for their money, then someone goes and takes the machine. (It's) terrible," Carolyn Brown said

Police said they found cash, broken light pieces from the truck, a license plat holder and a tire near the crash site.

They said they hope the items and surveillance video will lead them to the thieves.

The security guard said he saw two people in the truck, but could not give a good description.
