Talk about weird timing.

In the same week, old signs that reportedly stood in front of two iconic Atlanta establishments — one famous for the older employees working the attached basement bar, the other famous for the older clientele crowding its dance floor  — were up for auction.

On Thursday, hours after a weeklong eBay auction for a sign with Clermont Hotel emblazoned on it ended, a live auction for the original Johnny's Hideaway Roswell Road street sign began.

While the Clermont sign garnered an impressive $6,700, the final bid for the 10 x 5 feet Johnny's sign came in at a nice, round $8,000, according to a spokeswoman. The relic was one of the auction items at the annual Taste of the Nation charity event.

The sign also came with a dance party at Johnny’s for 30 people, which will happen on the available date of the buyer’s choosing. The proud new owner of the Johnny’s sign wished to remain anonymous.

Taste of the Nation took place from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Cobb Galleria Centre. Tickets were $250.

The seller of the Clermont Hotel sign originally posted it on Craigslist for $400, but moved it to an eBay auction after receiving high demand for the item, according to the listing.

Clermont Hotel closed years ago, but the building's reincarnation, Hotel Clermont, is expected to reopen as a 94-room boutique hotel, restaurant, cocktail lounge and rooftop bar in May. Booking is available now.
