—Barbara Billert, Carrollton
A: Residents in Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale counties will vote on the metro Atlanta transportation referendum, set for July 31. If passed, it is projected to raise $6.14 billion in 10 years for highway interchanges, roads, and bus and train lines. Other areas of the state will vote on their own referendums.
Q: A number of articles about Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt's courageous battle against early onset dementia have included the fact that that her son, Tyler, has been a strong source of encouragement and support for his mother. No mention is ever made of her husband, Tyler's father. Are he and Pat still together?
—Betty Ballinger, Tucker
A: Summitt and husband R.B. Summitt were divorced in 2007. They were separated for 17 months before she filed for divorce in August of that year, citing irreconcilable differences, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel. Their son Tyler was 17 at the time. He is now a senior at the University of Tennessee, where he was a walk-on basketball player. Tyler, who is set to graduate next month, accepted a job as an assistant women's basketball coach at Marquette University on April 18, the News Sentinel reported. That was the same day Summitt announced she was stepping down, eight months after revealing she had been diagnosed with early-onset dementia.
