Q: Have the Henry County police made any progress in the case of the man who stole a woman's purse from the daycare parking lot and posted a picture of himself on her Facebook page?
—Lori Tate, McDonough
A: It is still an open case, Major Jason Bolton of the Henry County Police Department told Q&A on the News. "We haven't been able to identify him and we don't have any tips or leads, which is mind-boggling because we have such a clear picture of him," Bolton said. "We expected somebody to call and help us out on that, but that has yet to happen."
Q: Your previous column said the U.S. operates 662 bases in 38 foreign countries and 88 bases in seven U.S. territories. How many bases are in the U.S.? What state has the most and the least?
—Tara Hands, Smyrna
A: The Department of Defense operated 4,249 bases and facilities in the U.S. as of September 2009, according to the 2010 Base Structure Report. The Army had 1,665, followed by the Air Force with 1,509, the Navy with 832 and the Marines with 111. The Washington Headquarters Services, which "provides consolidated administrative and operational support to several defense agencies, DoD field activities, the headquarters and various elements of the military departments, the White House, and to some degree, Congress," had 132. There were 364 sites in California and nine in New Hampshire.
