A 16-year-old girl was critically injured Monday night when she and a friend were hit by a car while trying to cross a busy east Cobb County road.

Channel 2 Action News reported that the girl and her 19-year-old friend were trying to cross the street at the intersection of Johnson Ferry and Shallowford roads when they were hit by a Honda Accord.

The two were in a crosswalk, but were crossing against the traffic light, the station said.

The younger teen was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with severe head injuries. The 19-year-old male is expected to be OK, according to Channel 2.

The station reported that the Honda driver was shaken up, but will not face charges because she had the right of way and remained at the crash scene.
