A Douglas County teen is accused of stealing a police radio from a vehicle and then broadcasting phony information.

The teen, whose name was not released, transmitted to deputies and dispatchers different numbers and codes requesting back-up help and reporting false information, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. But the made-up codes didn't make sense to those listening on the sheriff's office radio system late last month.

"We knew it was bogus," Capt. Bobby Holmes with the sheriff's office told the AJC Tuesday.

Deputies were able to track the suspect by the radio's signal within a day and a half, Holmes said. The radio signal led investigators to the teen's home, where he was arrested.

The teenage suspect faces charges for allegedly entering several vehicles in the county, as well as thefts of person property, including GPS units, police said. The teen allegedly told deputies he was responsible for the break-ins.
