Georgia Tech baseball standout Matt Skole was arrested and charged for driving under the influence in early February, the AJC has learned.

A Georgia State Patrolman pulled the 21-year-old over on Roswell Road in Buckhead on Feb. 3, according to a police report obtained Monday.

Skole was suspended for the second game of the season for "violating team rules." He was also subjected to other disciplinary actions by coach Danny Hall.

The officer wrote in a report that Skole crossed out of his lane several times. After he was stopped, Skole admitted drinking a Bourbon and Coke, the officer wrote, adding that Skole's eyes were bloodshot and watery.

Skole refused to blow into a breathalyzer, and was charged with DUI/less safe and failure to maintain a lane.

Should he be convicted, he may be subject to other disciplinary actions. Georgia Tech's code of conduct for student-athletes doesn't have any rules specific to DUIs.

Georgia Tech's student code of conduct includes a provision prohibiting alcohol violations that include underage use or possession of alcohol and behavior, while under the influence of alcohol that endangers any person. Discipline ranges from a warning to expulsion. He turned 21 last year.

Skole, a 6-4, 223-pound native of Woodstock, entered the season 11th on the school's home run list (37). He's a .319 hitter with 121 RBI. He sat out the season-opener with a sprained ankle suffered during practice a few days before the game.

An All-ACC performer last season, the left-handed slugger is hitting .478 this season with one home run and eight RBI in six games.
