The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department will be participating in Saturday’s Polar Plunge at Lake Lanier to help raise money for Special Olympics Georgia.

The event will be at the island’s Beach and Water Park in Buford. More than 250 plungers have registered from across metro Atlanta to brave the icy waters.

The Polar Plunge is at 2 p.m.; gates open at 11 a.m. There will be food, music, a bounce house, dunking booths and Special Olympics athlete appearances. Proceeds benefit Special Olympics. Lake Lanier is waiving the gate fee for attendees.
