TAKE TO TASK

Update: Chamblee (DeKalb)
Last week, we told you about Glenn Moore’s issue with a street in Chamblee.
“I have sent emails to the Chamblee government concerning the speed and careless driving on Harts Mill Road. Traffic is getting worse as time passes with cut thru traffic as well as commercial vehicles, the number of which continues to increase,” he wrote.
Moore said both sides of Harts Mill Road are residential.
“In addition there are three schools within walking distance that children and teens use for both going and coming home from school, elder dog walkers, joggers, etc. I know I am not the only person who has expressed concerns about traffic on this road which is approximately 1.5 miles long. Anything the AJC can do to help with a resolution to this problem would be appreciated,” Moore added.
We received an update from Chamblee.
“We have investigated the complaint from Mr. Moore regarding speeding on Harts Mill. We would like to address the following:
• There have been fewer than five accidents reported on Harts Mill Road in the past five years. Those that occurred fall into the ‘fender bender’ category.
• We have no formal complaint filed from Mr. Moore regarding this issue or from anyone else.
• The Georgia Department of Transportation set the speed limit as 35 miles per hour for Harts Mill Road.
We are happy to deploy our speed trailer to do a speed study immediately.
• In the city of Chamblee, there are sidewalks on Harts Mill from Chamblee Dunwoody to the Brookhaven city limits, where they terminate on Ashford Dunwoody. We recommend joggers/pedestrians run/walk on sidewalks to ensure their safety,” wrote Tisa Moore, Chamblee public information officer.
